Behind the Chair: Where Trust Becomes EverythingNina ScheetsMar 254 min readMost people think going to beauty school means learning how to do hair… how to give a facial… how to enhance a person’s features. And yes, we learn all of that. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that I was actually being trained to understand people. Their skin. Their hair. Their habits. Their health. It just happened to be disguised as a cosmetology and skincare curriculum.⸻When you graduate and step behind the chair, you’re essentially putting yourself out there and saying:“Trust me.”And people do.At first, it’s simple. You do what you were taught. You give a good haircut, a great color, a relaxing facial. And trust starts to build. Then something shifts. That trust turns into a bond. Some connections come and go.Some grow stronger over time. And before you even realize it, people aren’t just saying,“She does great hair.”What they’re really saying is:“I trust her. You can too.”⸻And that… is not something I take for granted.Because it’s not just about hair. It’s about how you make someone feel. The conversations. The recommendations. The quiet moments when someone sits in your chair and lets their guard down.⸻When I first started, my focus was simple:Make your hair look good… and recommend the right products. But over time, something deeper became impossible to ignore.Your hair and your skin are not separate from your health. They are reflections of it.And when you see the same clients for 5, 10, even 20 years…you start to notice patterns. You start to see changes. You start to witness things most people don’t get to see…honestly, not even doctors.Because people change doctors all the time. And how many people have the same person consistently caring for them for 10+ years?⸻I’ve watched clients struggle with hair loss.Skin issues.Chronic illness.I’ve listened to stories about doctor visits…about feeling dismissed…about not getting real answers. And sometimes… I’ve watched people not recover. That changes you.⸻Because when you care, you don’t just stand there and do hair. You start asking questions. You start researching. You try to help however you can.And for a long time, that’s what I did for everyone else.Until one day… it was my turn.⸻Getting sick changed everything. At that point, I hadn’t studied nutrition or wellness yet.I just knew the basics… eat healthy, exercise, take care of yourself. But getting sick opened my eyes in a way I wasn’t expecting. It made me realize how sick the world really is.And I had a choice…stay stuck, or figure it out.So I started learning.I began using food differently.I found homeopathy. And I slowly started figuring out how to support my body and bring myself back to health. And that’s what pushed me to go deeper. To take courses. To study. To truly understand how the body works.Because now… I don’t just see it.I’ve lived it.I understand how overwhelming it is.How exhausting it can be.How hard it is to even know where to start.⸻And here’s the part I didn’t expect…I would go to work, stand behind the chair, and naturally start sharing what I was learning. And people were interested.Really interested.⸻Before I knew it, my clients weren’t just coming to me for hair. They were texting me when they didn’t feel good.Asking questions.Looking for a second perspective alongside what their doctor told them. And it all started with one thing…Trust.⸻Because when you sit in my chair long enough, you don’t just share hair goals. You share life.Health.Struggles.And at the same time… I was on my own healing journey.I started learning how to support my body.Trying things.Figuring things out.And naturally… I shared that with my clients. What I didn’t expect was how many times someone would say,“Thank you for sharing that!”⸻That’s when it clicked. My journey wasn’t just for me.It was helping other people too.And once I saw that… I couldn’t stop there.⸻So I kept learning.I went deeper into wellness.Into the body.Into getting to the root instead of just covering symptoms. Not just for me anymore…but for the people who trusted me.⸻And somewhere along the way…that turned into something bigger.A community.Built on trust.⸻Because behind the chair, I’m not just seeing hair.I’m seeing people.Their stories.Their health.⸻So when I make a recommendation now…when I talk about skincare, haircare, or wellness…It’s not just coming from experience behind the chair. It comes from intention.I invested in learning.I educated myself in homeopathy, wellness, and nutrition…because I wanted to understand the body on a deeper level, not just what we see on the surface.Because if I’m going to guide you…I want to do it with knowledge. With care. And with purpose.⸻And if you’ve ever sat in my chair, trusted me with your hair, your skin, or even your story…Just know this:I don’t take that lightly. Not for a second.
